ARTIST STATEMENT:
All I need is a blank piece of paper or canvas to jump start my imagination and set if off racing away. Whether using a pen, pencil, or a brush, I like to work spontaneously - each new shape or pattern drawn in response to the last mark. Eyes, teeth, wings, and other things found in nature collide with both the manmade and the imaginary realm in my creative process. The paper is rotated constantly, always in search of new things. Imaginative thoughts and expressions stampede together until the work is complete. It's a process filled with suspense and usually multiple outcomes. What you see today, might not be what you see tomorrow. It's kind of like driving down the street and noticing a "new" building that has been there for twenty years. Most of my artworks can be rotated for a whole new viewing experience. Enjoy.
ARTIST BIO:
I was born in 1968, nicknamed Bucky, and raised up in Lumberton, North Carolina. My mother says I was a wonderful little boy, always occupying myself by drawing away for hours at a time every chance I got. Unfortunately, I lost that wonderful status through high school and my six years of college at UNCW. While art was not very high on my list during college, I did manage to figure out my drawing style, plus what and how I wanted to draw and paint from there on out. Luckily, I also met my wife there, Sara.
After I graduated from UNCW in 1992, I returned to work in my father's construction business. A year later, Sara and I walked the narrow isle and now have two wonderful boys. "Just wait...", says my mom with fading eerie laughter. LOL!
Today , I'm still at work with my father and on my art non-stop. I'm thankful and humbled by all the support I've received from friends and family since deciding to do something with my art back in 2004. In October 2007, I completed my new art studio. The little kid is back drawing and painting with a vengeance again! Hoo-rah! |
